225 Promax & water temp.
I am picking up a 225 promax to use in cold water nj to run on my bass boat(boat and gear-1800lbs). I was concerned after reading Cold Water articles on S&F for this motor. It has R32 ecu-tstats and poppet valve,2 piece plates. Is there any Precautions besides 93 octane and 40/1 oil that can be recommended. Is wise to kick the timing back till the summer months. Thank you

Your ok with your timing, the issues with cold water isn’t detonation problems, it’s from “cold seizures” caused by the cold steel sleeve not having time to expand as fast as the aluminum piston causing the clearance to deminish and seize. You just want to make sure stats and poppet are functioning properly to allow engine to warm up good while idling at dock. It’s a good idea to allow it to idle as long as possible to allow good heat soak before blast off.
