    effect of 'hook' on speed?

    Hi all,
Have just been trying to diagnose my boats difficulty in revving, a page i read on here suggested that hook might slow a vessel down, so i got a straightedge and have just realised i can easily fit a coin between straightedge and hull on both sides, is this normal for such a small (14ft) vessel and would it possibly rob me of upper rpm partly due to a 14 1/2 inch diameter prop?

Some boats develop a hook from improper trailering and some have hook built in. A built in hook will possibly slow you a bit but it's most likely there to help keep the nose down. A perfectly straight bottom is usually fastest.

Sounds like a soggy boat with a weak bottom.

Sometimes they will add hook to the outside of the hull to help plane and low speed performance. Is the hook also present in the pad?
