Motor setup on a grizzly 2072

My buddy bought a 2009 grizzly 2072 with a 2013 Yamaha 4 stroke on it. Too speed is only 39 because we can't trim it up much at all before it blows out. Can't lift the bow at all. The water spray is coming from the far front of the hull. Measuring the "20 inch transom" shows that its almost 23 inches. I was thinking about putting a 6inch jackplate on it to lower the motor and get it in clean water.

Lowering the engine is a good idea. Check the bottom of the boat for a "hook" or concave area ahead of the transom. If it has this shape it may never get it's bow to fly.

Them griz nearly flat bottoms are fun to set up.

Spray out the front isn’t bad, but a plowed bow is.

If thas the notch start with height set to the notch; not the very bottom can’t remember if grizzlies have the notch.

    39 ain’t a bad number with them.

Basicly what it it boils down to is balance the bow and stern lift to get it flat as possible and on top the pull the bow just enough to make 2-5*. A lot of boat will be in contact though. Many try to lift the bows up to much and bulldoze with the stern it’s about 50/50 on which works best. To me it’s mainly handling preferences. And flat seems to come out faster most of the time.

i’ll assume A 90 as that’s the hp rateing common to them. chances are your 2-3” underpitched. Unless the previous guy did some testing. You should have good grip trimmed around a stern heigh rooster tail. Past that the brick wall is close to 50.

If if you have the high torque or pontoon gears a 4 blade tends to work best good rake to lift the bow and 4 gives good stern lift and corner grip if you lose bite in a corner rolled over like a v bottom good.

Boat gearing 3 blades work good. I forget all the Yamaha props

That should get get you started. Look for about 1” out the water with the a/v plate if you don’t have a pressure gauge.
