    How can this be..

I have bought many diesel parts off the net soo much cheaper than the dealer?

    Yesterday I called for a new turbo for a 4BT 3.9 Cummins $1,350. to rebuild / exchange $650.00

New from China $278.00 free shipping no tax.

    It's on its way...

The one from China is built with cheaper parts, that’s why they are cheaper

What's the warranty on the one from China? When it blows and you buy a second at $278 + shipping, you'll be at the price of having the US company rebuild the one you had.

The problem with a turbo is when it blows most of the time it sends metal through the motor, I know 4bt is a strong motor but no good

Yeah, I would not do a china turbo. When the bearings go it puts all its trash in your oil pan. Or when the compressor wheel takes a **** it puts all that metal in the intake.

There is a reason why used he351 turbos are going for 4-5 hundred bucks and a new China one is 200

Which can lead to bent valves, valve hits piston, valve to piston force bends rod... I've seen all three happen.
Even had one where the valve broke and the valve stem was stuck in the piston.

I guess I'm lucky since I own 20 diesels, I've never had one do any damage when they quit working, I got this turbo from turbo exchange two years ago, everyone said it's this or that, fuel injection pump, head, exhaust manifold leaking, injectors... so if I was told a year ago it would have been under warranty, I ordered the China turbo and I've been told the same thing about other parts in the past, they worked out fine so far.
A few months back I needed an alternator for a German diesel dealer over $600. with tax 700 China $150.

China alternator goes you will just be walking but it won't take the motor out.

We have ran them on junk yard drag car builds for the fun of it. They just don't last long at all being pushed. I would put new bearings in stock holset before i would run one on a motor i liked. But each to there own. Good luck with it.

When we’re talking about turbos I think of heavy loads on the motor, high horsepower race cars or big torque diesel trucks. No matter what. under a heavy load conditions I don’t see a turbo “ stop working” , I see a turbo blow apart and peices the compressor wheel end up inside the cylinder.

that being said if you take good care of your fleet and notice when you have some shaft play and replace/ rebuilt turbos accordingly you might just be alright.

This is a 140hp Morbark wood chipper, problems I've had in the past were operators shutting down without any cooldown, right after running the machine very hard, an abrupt shutdown, bearings seize. I've told them to just give it a minute or two to cool and all been well.
This turbo spins fine, what I can see looks good but no boost? I've got a real mechanic coming over today, maybe I can get him to open it up for a look.

Put a timing relay on the key circuit. When they shut the key off, the relay will energize and hold the circuit closed for the desired time, then turn off. An E -stop button would have to be added as well. Sometimes you just have to idiot proof things.

Yep, operators account for 30% of breakdowns I was told, back in my diesel mech. days.
Had one operator that would fire up the aux. engine, 4-53 Detriot, wide open on a Gradall. The operator and his supervisor didn't think he was doing anything wrong. Had to actually show his supervisor in the Detroit manual the proper warm up/cool down procedure AFTER I had to rebuild the engine after years of the operator doing this.
