Yes it did get its start in the Aero Space Industry. But it was the Aussies that took it to the next level and started experimenting with it in Engines. They also worked on reformulating its make up. Now instead of having to be applied Thick to achieve its Thermal barrier properties. its applied between .0003/.0005 tenths. There is a engine coating now that can be applied up to .006 ths for old engines where parts are NLA. There are even different compounds for all types of Engines that are Turbo Charged or Super Charged. Run Nitro Methane, Alcohol you name it. Thats why I have to be very specific with my customers when asking questions about applications and what their end use will be.
The most beneficial result in ceramic coatings in Internal Combustion engines is its preventing heat transfer to unwanted areas and keeping the Heat where it achieves its maximum efficiency before its discharged. That in itself = HP.
As far as engine builders concern about it flaking off. Its a viable concern. As Ive said in may posts about both Powder and ceramic coatings. "All coating shops are not the same and all coating products are not the same". I redo other shops work all the time for different reasons. They didnt use the correct product for the application or the one I run into the most is lack of proper preparation for whats being applied. Yes the customer gets upset at the cost. But one has to understand its not simply preparation and application anymore.Bud Conner "Heathen" "Defending Our Constitution"

20 Years ago I had pistons done, I told the well known motor builder he needed to check the sizing afterword, while picking the powerhead up he acted scared that it was too tight and should have a long break in...
I sold the powerhead with out starting it, the builder was good enough not charge the guy after he stuck a piston

You're Implying I knew It was going to have problems?
How was I to know, I've known him since the early 90's never had a problem ever, he is a true professional In fact you have
done lots of work with him over the years, I just got a bad feeling, this was not ceramic coating rather a Harding type of
coating like I said I don't build my motors since the early 90's, every trade has knowledge gain over years of experience, I've
owned different types of welding equipment forever but don't call myself a welder, I've got tools galore but don't call myself a
mechanic, I played doctor when I was 6-7 years old but I'm not a Doctor.
Innuendo

At this time I could bring up a story about you and one of your good customers but I won't ... I thought we were past this chit?

I don't know .. that's why I asked . But having a bad feeling about a build and selling it without telling the guy that it should be checked out is not the right thing to do either.
Well ceramics , go on the crown , molly type dry films go on the skirts.
So now you threaten with .. Oh I know about an X-customer of yours .. be it true , or another half-baked story with no merit. You still plant a seed of doubt .. Like I said in the past to you in private. If you want to know something about me , just ask. Don't be a weasel and go behind my back, kids and girls do that ...
Now Gumby, I don't know if you really hold one till the swelling goes down .. but that's what they say ... none of my business.
See how that works ...

So a Customer Out in Oklahoma is restoring his 946 Porsche. The Pancake air cooled motors used alot of Magnesium for its lightness & Strength. But its down side is it corrodes easily unless protected. So These valve covers factory protective coating was looking poorly. We got them all stripped down and applied a nice coat of Glacier Silver 2000 deg Ceramic. Turned out looking better than brand new!!! Ceramics not only provide a Thermal heat barrier but is also corrosion resistant to most all corrosive chemicals and environments.
At East Coast Powder & Ceramic Coatings
All our ceramics and powders are specially formulated to withstand Marine salt Environments. They are tested to ASTME standards and subjected to 2000 hr's of Continuous Salt spray before being approved.

Thanks, Bud.
They turned out great!
I would definitely use your services again.
However, they are 946 valve covers, not 928, but what is a couple of numbers between friends.

I dont Post all the Work we do here at East Coast Powder & Ceramic. But I thought these two Wall signs came out looking pretty cool. A Guy I do business with Raises Huskies so he wanted his Wall sign Powdercoated. And his Friend Has a Bar down on the Outer Banks down on the Beach. Sense Both signs will be near the ocean I completely Coated them in a Epoxy Powder Primer before applying the final Top coat.
