Back in 1979/80 I did the exhaust area and divider plate on a Merc, then Pistons on 1982 235, ceramic was the new thing back then, I was wondering has anyone ever proven a

advantage to doing the top of 2 cycle pistons because I don't see it being done today?

Guess you have not seen inside Bud's motor. Power gains from keeping the heat where it should be and more resistance to melting down.

I guess the key words are "I dont See". Actually I do 2 Stroke Piston Skirts in 1500 deg DFL (Dry Film Lubricant) And Tops in 1800 deg Ceramic all the time for Customers. Even the RC world has started to embrace these coatings. But Its been a Up hill struggle getting people to Understand how beneficial these coatings really are. The Hardest part Ive dealt with is getting someone with a Dyno to to do the testing thats needed the proper way. Im talking with Someone i wont name right now about the possibility of doing just that. Were going to start with the tuner. (1) in the raw condition, (2) Only the Outside coated, (3) Only the Inside coated & (4) Both Inside and outside coated. Hopefully this will evolve into Dyno testing Pistons, Exhaust chests, Divider Plates, Combustion Chambers as well in the raw vs coated conditions in a Base line Motor. But its ALOT of Work tearing down and re assembling, Doing Dyno pulls tearing back down coating etc etc etc.. All the data in the world isnt worth a hoot if you cant start and end with the same base line platform for all the testing. Thats exactly the problem we discussed just yesterday. I know for a FACT there are a few Top Fuel Car Teams using these coatings. But No one is talking because those teams are on the Top and they want to stay there. My Goal for getting the information out there so people can understand it and Embrace it has a totally different mission all together. What I can say with no Uncertainty is my Data Logger and EGT meter tells me these coating work.

I hear Ya, when I put ZX14 headers on my ZG14 I put header tape on to keep the heat down in S FL. that was OK till my Jack Russell was determined to get the Lizard hiding inside the bike He went on a tear , did more damage than just the tape. When I get my valves checked I'm going to ceramic coat them.

Far less heat sink of parts , more aggressive tuning and extended parts life with that tuning.

since the F1 cars have to have engines that last more then one race, they are all using coatings on just about everything.

Dont just stop at the valves. if its tore down that far. Do the Pistons and combustion chambers as well. If you are reading EGT's dont get alarmed when they drop in Temp. And take it from experience dont try leaning on it to hard in a attempt to get them back up. Because you will definitely be making a BIG Expensive mistake

Sorry for the misunderstanding I meant to coat the headers and pull off the header tape that now looks likes Gorilla hair from the dogs ripping and tearing.

Looks great bet you enjoyed not having to do 3 days worth of body work first.

Well the body work wasnt all that bad. But I did struggle with Out gassing in One area on the Stbd side. Took three attempts to get it right.
