Whats a good two part motor paint?

    Guys:

Some of you have been great about giving me advice about repainting my OMC/BRP M1 charcoal gearcase to gloss white so it will match my motor.

I've been thinking about using a 2 part urethane paint, that I could spray on and it would be more durable than the OEM rattle cans.

My idea is to buy a Preval Sprayer and lay this 2 part paint on after priming the gearcase and wet sanding it with 400 grit.

Do you know if there are any paints available out there that I could use? or you have used?

what about automotive finishes? I'm told NAPA will mix it if you give then a paint code, but I don't know if they add the hardener to it or not.

What have you guys painted you motors with? (not the cwol, the leg and gearcase, clamps, etc..)

    Thanks!

You likely to get a bunch of different opinions on this, so....
I am a hobbyest painter....I personally like 2 part urethane paint for this, base/clear just because that's what I know how to spray, and will be doing my promax like I have done many 20+years ago...

Nason brand because it has held up for me and is less expensive. Lower units usually get painted a bunch anyway due to a wide array of reasons...

If your familiar with a certain paint and know how to apply it, try that.

Most of the paints you buy are of decent quality, the problems usually are in the prep, conditions when sprayed or the one doing the spraying.

    yes
anything with added hardener in it will be WAY better than anything out of a rattle can. Even the Majic implement paint that tractor supply sells works good with if you buy the hardener to mix with it

Most auto refinishing suppliers carry a few grades of paint. I like RM ( BASF ) because I have a close supplier and they have Limco 1 fleet white which is single stage urethane and quite low cost and can be tinted. If you take whatever your trying to color match in they should be able to scan it and match it perfectly

If you want it to last forever, Imron. Catalyzed car paint will last better than rattle can. All of it depends on prep and primer/sealer quality too. Can't put Imron over rattle can primer and expect it to last.

    I have to agree
.... imo what he said, except the forever part. When I lived in South Florida, never could get anything to stick when you find a sand bar that wasn't there yesterday

Dupont Imron! Unless you take a flame thrower to it I don't know of a anything that will shine better and hold up better than Imron. I have painted well over a hundred motors black with Imron and the damn stuff just lasts forever, well almost.
