As usual in Auto racing, innovation is killed by the rule book.

My boss at a body shop I worked at in Syracuse NY in the mid 70's built a 1/2 mile track car (Fulton Speedway) with two inline 6 Mercury outboards powering it. It had some issues but was a pretty neat idea at the time.

I’ll bet when he passed the other guys they could hear it quite well!
There were a couple guys running a 2L in a midget in Sun Prairie, WI as the rules allowed it. The exhaust chest cover looks very similar to the one on the Lola.A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

This thing was crazy loud, and crazy fast. Tom almost died running one of his twin 2.4 merc powered sleds. He has always been a pioneer and now he wants to come out with his twin turbo tri-toon and lay down a record.

Thru the muffler's ...

Ever hear of Fast by Gast from Grand Island NY, they were the local two-stroke speed shop, they helped me with some port work back in the early eighties.

I used to attend the Deals Gap 2-Stroke Rally held over a 5 day period every year in April. One of the guys at the meet came in with a 1973 Kawasaki Mach III with stingers (chambers no silencers). The first day was heaven - loved the sound. Day 2 ~ 5, pure hell. That noise will lead to nausea. Someone there had a sound-pressure meter and recorded 130 db at 25 feet. 3 pipes were deafening, 6 would be sickening, 12 pipes - I'd go in hiding!
I've got several technical manuals on 2-stroke designs and chamber construction that I used when putting these together - both sets were used on my 1974 Kawasaki H2/Mach IV drag bike - Gordon
