Easy way to load crank.... stand up block on work bench with holes drilled for the studs. Stand up crank and not fight the weigh of crank. Use 1/8 shim to get height rite. Real easy and quick, use to be a 3 man job.... now Me. The new rods are easier....Nothing looks better than a long motor on a short housing.

Just did one 2 weeks ago. Thought about killing myself instead but I buckled down and got er done. Ordered parts for another next couple weeks and Dave, you better not be lying. I'm going to try your method instead of the traditional way. Sounds like a really good idea.

I used to build these regularly and had a set of the Mercury ring squeezers. Took a bit of concentration to get the offsets facing the right way, but they worked pretty good. Saw a video once of a guy who could line them up and slam them in with one fell swoop. Never got that good... Or that brave!

My first boat was just like the one above, a 1979 Invader with same year 115 merc. The boat was rated for 175hp but that merc would make it go 40 on gps @5500rpm with a 17p 3b aluminum. On one occasion, I had about 10 people in the boat and it still got 2 tubes up on plane. That old 115 was a torque monster!

I will go out on a limb and say a 115 four would sound the alarm trying that

Put top piston in first.....helps keep the crank steady. I used to use my fingers.... but they are too weak now.

I have a big engine hoist that drops really slow. I suspend the crank and pistons over the block and let it drop ever so slowly and position pistons in one at a time. Always worked good for me.

The proxs115 next-door couldn't break 37 on a Lund 18 with two people, no gear. Gutless wonder that runs smooth with no pull. Trying to squeeze more with trim and props just got us alarms. Good luck with 10 people and two tubes on that hull.
