Wow, never thought that would be a thing. Then again who would have thought old cars would sell for what they do.

That is bizarre. I know all about some of the insane values of older video game consoles and games, but this just seems far beyond the realm of possibility. I just can't imagine how that could possibly be worth 100K. Even one of the rarest of the rare NES game - the 1990 NES World Championships, of which only 26 were made, won't even approach six figures. I've seen them sell for $20K, which is crazy enough. I really need to research this Super Mario thing. It's just crazy.

The value is in the eye of the beholder I guess..... how much did the toast that resembled Christ go for?

Greg you are probably right that this is far fetched. There is a couple well known televised car auction companies that i have watched. When the price just does not make sense there is one of two explanations that fit. One is if the proceeds are going to a legit charity. I have seen a million dollar buyer sign in. Then yell to auctioneer that he just donated back. Sell it again to raise more money. That is a great reason to see false value paid. Now the more common is the smoke and mirror illusion. The auction actually picks the model of car to create a strong market for. Auction may pic Hemi cars from late 60's to early 70's. Could go with mid 60's big block vettes. Auction sometimes owns a handful of the best restored cars, or works with a broker. It is easy to get the wealthy group of buyers that go to high end auctions. Wanting to have bragging rights to ownership of the best money can buy. Well if auction put in the setup work to create a market. It pays well. To set up the false market several cars are bid up to unheard of prices. The ringer that out bids the other 1 or 2 inside the plan bids. Gets the TV exposure and the press runs with the record prices paid for the Hemi muscle cars. No money ever changes hands on the shill bid sales. It does get the buzz that Hemi cars are the star of the big dollar sales. Now it is easy to sell 45k Hemi cars for 100k plus long enough to cash out the brokers and auction owned cars to the mega rich buyers that really enjoy the fact that. The bigger the check the better your car story gets on the golf course. Hemi supply dries up. Not a problem. 69 and 70 mustangs are getting ready to get a market adjustment at the next 3 auctions. Should be ready to set some profit records by the fall sale in Anaheim.

This Mario record sale. The fact the auction house is involved in the buying of it really is a red flag. Talking about a conflict of interest. Auction collects fee from buyer and seller. It is just so rare that the group may not sell it the next auction. In other words. They threw the bait. now waiting for a strike.
