    Optimax 3.0 sportjet

    Hi guys
I have a sugar sand mirage with a optimax 250hp sportjet in it
Bought the boat with a seized engine as owner submarined it and pulled water into engine.
Here in oz trying to find a 250hp power head is near impossible.
My question is would a 225 opti 3.0 outboard be the same block bolt pattern to bolt in as I can buy complete 3.0 225s way cheaper and easier than finding a 250 power head.
I am sure the block is interchangeable just trying to confirm.
    Thanks for any advice.

Crankshaft splines will be different... you will need a sportjet powerhead or a sportjet crank to put into an outboard powerhead and what ever plumbing is different..............

    Cheers mate.
I have done a quick search and I can see both have same crank part number 9784a11
I know the smaller motors have different crank (13 spline) for sportjet but just hoping block are identical bolt pattern which I'm 99% sure they are.
Just trying to confirm be for I buy.

I looked up too... the early 250DFI outbaords use 9784A14, later they used 842733A02

Sportjets and Sportjet M2's used 978A11......

Interestingly tho, the DSI (diesel spark ignition) uses the sportjet crank...............

Get with Jay Smith here (JSRE), he should be able to give you some insight or even build/rebuild what you need.

I'm pretty sure were talking about 3.0L's in the land of Oz ...

Big place, but the guy to talk to in western Perth is Leon D. Great guy, 3 - 3.0L's on a 22' cat .. so ya know he gotz spares ...

Beav, if you like I'll PM you his E-mail addy, then you can ask him for his phone number yourself ..

You young guys are full of energy and must have a lot of money .. Powerheads and crankshafts and what year has what spline and all that ..Your giving me a headache

Chaz = thinking this here stock driveshaft fits these here coarse spline fruitcake cranks.
And this here hardened stub I cut off of that driveshaft I shortened for a fella the other day , will weld on to the bottom half of a pump type driveshaft ... and now
It dont *&%&^*(&%*& matter what crank the motor has, heck be a sport, Don't even look, just stick eeny-meeny-miiny-mo-> up in the seal plate and give it a wiggle and see if it goes clunk
