How do you make a splatter design using gell coat

How would one go about making a splatter design? Say you had a base color then wanted to splatter some fairly large 1/2" opposing color, how would you do it?

You have any spray equipment with a large tip? I have a mix that works well for a gun. Without a gun, just use a 4'' paint brush and stay back from the surface, wet and sling the brush. Just do a little at a time till it's what you want. You need some wax additive for either way of doing it. You might want to practice a little before throwing it on the middle of the floor. Like, start under the bow or the rear deck.

I saw a few people on you tube use a fork dipped in and flicked not sure if it would be good for a large area though .

Thanks for the ideas. The largest tip I have is 2.8MM that sprays gel well. I'll be using Duratec so shouldn't need wax.Im wondering if one of those suction air guns for spraying mineral spirits would work with air turned down.

You can make a web/spatter pattern with that gun using a webbing solution and the duratec. A cup gun works well too. !/2'' drops are hard to do. You will need something that shoots upward and then the drops fall on the surface. A wallpaper brush may work well too.

The webbing solution that you speak of,is that gel and Duratec 50/50 shot from the 2.8 tip with the air turned way down, and fluid valve wide open?

Webbing solution is a separate product. Makes the long strings and can help make globs and spatter. Depends on the application equipment. You will have to experiment with stuff. An old sandblast gun can be used for large spatter. The kind with the hose that goes in the media. Very large orifice. Turn it upside down and make it a gravity feed and it will shoot out some material. Just be ready to keep it moving.

A buddy of mine said that if you take the atomizing part of a spray gun tip off, and spray low pressure itll sling big drops. Never tried but......

Thanks again for everyone's input. If I decide to go that route I may build a simple "splatter" gun.
Getting a little burnt out right now.Not sure if I want to take on a full blown color change of the interior.I like the current black, but got to thinking that a grey with orange spatter would give a newer cleaner look.

for drops, almost no pressure, full fan, heavy on the material

it will spray drops. no need to shoot it upside down.

be cautious when using gelcoat if you dont mix properly and get enough on you wont have the volume for it to cure totally tack free

for webbing - use the webbing additive it works great for that and much easier to control then flicking a brush.

personally I dont like splatter, too old fashioned and busy even for an older boat but if thats your vision- go for it
