    Shipping from Canada to US?

I have an agreement to buy a prop from a guy in Canada. Seller has been quoted $40 from Canada Post. The prop is $600. I've read different opinions on import fees etc. Anyone have direct experience shipping from Canada to US? I don't want to send $640 and then be contacted and told I need to pay another $200 to get the prop.

    Thanks in advance.

Mail is your best option. The parcel delivery services will ding you for brokerage fees. Note that my experience was reverse, ie I was the Canadian seller.

Thanks David, so when you say "Mail is the best option", Canada Post is Mail, correct. So are you saying, if the seller uses Canada Post, there won't be any other charges other than the postage of $40 he was quoted?

I have sold dozens of props and parts to US S&F members using Canada Post (our equivalent to US Postal Servixe) and never a complaint about shipping fees. David is correct, steer clear of couriers if possible, UPS in particular.

Ship by post fill in the customs part as for inspection and repair, good chance no fee but no guarantee. Believe the fee cut off is 300 going from US to Canada, its 20 going the other way.

Anytime your sending an item across the border customs has to clear it. Properly filling out paperwork and using USPS will help a lot in reducing hassles. Try bringing in cars from over seas.... spent frikkin days in customs getting them cleared. Blah

If its mail and under a hundred bucks or so usually it sails on by. Between a hundo and a grand it really depends on who handles it. Luck of the drawers I guess

anything over $2500usd is considered commercial, and needs a broker, anything under $500 with proper paperwork for customs, shipped via canada post, doesn't usually get questioned. I've shipped everything from props to 300x motors in a crate, via motor carrier, and every time the paperwork filled out properly, is the #1 criteria, for smooth sailing.
