    DFL coating necessary?

I have a 280 with top pin pistons in it that I’m putting new rings on. My question is it necessary to recoat the pistons prior with DFL? Thanks

Its entirely up to you. Yes I recommend it. DFL does two things. (1) Its a Dry Lubricant that prevents gauling/scuffing should you experience a lean condition. (2) It provides a 1500 deg thermal barrier to the piston skirts. The thermal barrier properties prevent heat from transferring to areas its not needed. This in turn helps increase HP. I redo Piston skirts all the time for my customers. Most also have the Tops done in 1800 deg ceramic to better enhance the Combustion and lessen heat transfer.
