1998 mercury 200 efi
About 6 months ago i purchased a bass boat with a 1998 200 efi from Alabama. I have started some small engine mods(Heads-Tuner-Reeds)this weekend,Only to find No Tstats in the heads. I don't know if this a common practice in warm weather climate on EFI. I will be running this motor in NJ so i believe tstats are needed. Big question 120s or 140s for this motor. Thanks for the help.

143s are stock and you should run them, especially if your going fishing when its cooler out. They are there to keep engine temp up at idle. They are taken out routinely in an attempt to fix overheating problems, but they are fine when the other components of the cooling system (poppet and water pump) are in proper functioning condition.

Definitely needs t-stats or at least restrictors. If would use stats and the 140 degree ones. .
