What engine to run on 850lb. Skeeter wrangler 120hp. 15,1/2ft.
I have skeeter wrangler120hp. I currently have a 1990,225hp, rude on it now but am having fuel feed issues. I also have a 1980 Johnson 150 crossflow (runs good). When on skeeter only ran 68mph. W/13.5in. 25 pitch 4 blade shooter. Ran 70mph w/ 21p raker, not fast enough. Lastly I have a 1985 Johnson 140,v4,looper. What engine can I put on boat to get around 90mph. With not much more than polishing, exhaust widening, maybe mild porting, jets. Or am I just wishing. Know it will handle best w v-4 on it. Just don’t think I can get 85-90mph out of it, though rpm’s are rpm’s. Am running 14inches of setback.

So I thought I was bad , was runnin a modded 200 on a 15ft , to b perfectly honest, I think u could use any of the 3 motors and still not reach ur goal, I think bote gonna b way to hard to handle , mine was very stupid over 65 , mite wanna try less set back for short bote? , the 150 will do fine , the 200 will get there quicker but not real sure u can make it much faster on top unless u can really control it , maybe ur hull is diff enough it will handle it but if it does , I think 80 would damn near kill u. But they r really really fun to drive up to that point
I took mota off pit on 18.5 and runs around ur goal so far without much setup time,

be careful with the 4 blade props, that have too much transom lift. i used a 4 bl turbo prop on a 16' vamp w 175 omc. i lost steering when the boat was fully out of the water.

I found it interesting you were only turning a 25” with the 150 xf. Your also at the speed you need a pointy nose lower, what’s the current set up. Propshaft to pad height ( if it has it or last strake),Gearing, ect. 14” is a bit far back for 70’s.
Without a pointy lower it it looks like the 25 was slipping massively on the 150.
Might also check for hooks in the hull.
The v4 will give you the best stock running as the 120 was a v4. But hot rodded v4 are light quick brusiers won’t see 90 though without turning a few thousand over stock.
Im probably wrong but some numbers just did not add up for me so asking.

Just found that the “grey fuel lines” I bought was told were the best, come to find out they have a liner in them that collapsed but never came apart, and restricted fuel supplie greatly so every engine I put on were leaned out fuel starved. Pray not hurt!? Engines seem to like 2,3/4-3,1/2 below concave speed pad, went from 14 inches of setback to 6, boat running good now but porpoises at low speed. Engine is stock except for boysenberry reeds, polished intake, bobs big foot nose cone, and 2x bigger high speed jets & hot plugs. 14:26 gear. Waiting till tomorrow to ream it out w 26 chopper prop. Thank everyone very much happy safe boating. Have blessed day amen.
