2.5l 280 never blown for sale
My boat mechanic in Memphis has a 2.5l 280 for sale. Sportmaster gear case. Not sure on the prop yet. 650ish hours. Compression and leak down still good, he’s going to get me the numbers tomorrow. He didn’t have them readily available today. Mike is one of the best mercury mechanics in our area, and he’s the only one that’s ever worked on this motor. It was owned by a drag car hall of famer, and the man is more than meticulous about the care and maintenance of this engine. He is also a great fisherman , and this motor was a fishing motor for him. Pm me an offer/questions and I’ll present it to Mike in order received. I think $10k is a high end offer for this motor, so there you go with a range. Haha. I’m his go through guy until transaction time.. Thanks in advance.

Here are the leak down and compressions #s.
2/4/6- 8% and 135
1/3/5 - 10% and 130
never been re-ringed or re-nicked/sleeved , nothing.
i know these motors blow. I owned one and rebuilt it 4 times. I also know there’s someone out there looking for one as well. Def needs a re ring and check. Not sure if this is the CON or ROS but will find that out too. Just passing this info along.

I’m not here to trash and bash but to help inform. Those are not good leak down and compression numbers. They aren’t terrible and definitely indicative of a motor that will need rings, most likely pistons and then bearings while your are in there...so 3k in parts assuming the Nic is healthy. Good numbers IMO, would be 2-3% (or less) and 140+ considering new/stock is 145-150.
