Those will change how carb meters. Due your carbs have an adjustable idle mixture? If so they are original 96 and newer. Running these without air box changes metering but not like the earlier ones that needed 11 size change these will need less but you will need to jet up. IMO start about 6 up and work back down, personally leave box on.

No. The idle is a jet. It doesn't have the adjust screw like the 99 225 ocean pro that's at my shop has. It has 2 Jets. I can check sizes if that helps. Like I stated, I believe it was tuned my Monty with the airbox on. The motor I have is pieced together. Not sure what year any of it is. Midsection and cowling are 99, that's all I know..

Took it out today. Had issues. Not cause of the filters I don't think. I took them off and put the box on. It dies every time I tried to accelerate from idle. It's time to pull the carbs off and rebuild them. Gonna look at the reeds too. Not sure what was up. I did over fill the fuel tank I think. None came out of the vent. But it was full as it could be. Not sure if that could cause anything. I pulled 5 gal out and now there is some air space. Not much but some.

Have you done the linc and sync precedure EXACTLY as it states in the service manual without skipping any steps? I found that to be the best way to eliminate any issues after doing a leakdown test, checking fuel delivery to the carbs from the pump, making sure you have proper fire to all the plugs with a spark tester (3/8" gap), fresh fuel, etc. My looper went stupid on me one time and the only thing I found wrong was the timing roller arm had gotten out of adjustment. If I feathered the throttle and allowed it to slowly climb the rpm range, it would run good on the top end. If I stabbed it out of the hole , it would just die.
