Suzuki DF175 Flush coolant passages?
I picked up a 2013 DF170 to rebuild after it had a dropped valved destroy a piston. The engine is i fantastic shape other than the damage from the dropped valve and I am well on my way to sourcing all the parts needed to get it back running again. I have a few questions but the main one is about cleaning out what looks to be maybe salt deposits from the cooling passages. Is there a solution that I could run through the motor to dissolve the deposits? I saw where some guys run vinegar through the system for a while and it seems to work ok but is there anything that will for sure work? I do not think the deposits are all that bad, they are not blocking any passages or anything but with me freshening up this motor i would like to clean it as well as I can.

Acidic acid / vinegar is supposedly bad. If it is salt you can steam or flush with water.
Hardwater stains media blast or run the acids. Clr, vinegar ect.

OK, I guess if it is just salt build up running hot water through it would break it down and clean it up. I scrapped some of the buildup from inside the water passage and tasted it. and it was salty but not like table salt or anything. I guess it may be a mixture of minerals as well as salt.

Boiling water. If you have a tank big enough to boil the block in, over a bonfire?
That'll do the trick. Otherwise, find some place that does galvanizing - they have hot acid baths.
Your last option is manually scrape away what's there, and call it a day. The rest will usually dissolve on it's own through usage and proper wash-downs.1) 1995 14' Bayliner Restoration <--Click

I had pretty good luck with CLR after letting it soak in for awhile. Acid works FAST!
