    First 2.5 mods

So i have a 1995 2.5 200 efi...Have it tore down because of a suspected stuck injector..Looks like i was right..Also pulled the heads to check it over..Ordered a set of sport reeds from Chris Carson also..Was a 5 reed setup and switching it to a 4.. I have help here so don't beat me up for knowing all the correct terms please..We also have a "red" flywheel we are switching too..But i am wanting to get suggestions on who to send the injectors out too and get a tune with the stock ecu? Want to mill the heads also..Is this going to need a specialized machinist or can my local shop cut them? And any idea of how much to cut? This is on a tritoon...

Reason for not cutting heads is because of the load the motor will have to carry and more prone to detonation. Call Chris Carson, get his stuffers and can also get spacer plate but not necessary, reeds and stuffers be good but other than that and maybe a prop change b all u wanna do ,

And just to give you guys some background,so you dont think i am a complete idiot,i have a mechanical background..I drag race professionally and have for the last 10 years..Worked for chevy also as a parts man for 17 years..So when i got this 2.5 here and decided to do this project i have been on here just lurking, reading and trying to pick this stuff up..The one thing thats gets me though is the tuning aspects of these motors..I keep wanting to plug in the laptop or get air fuel readings to see what the hell is going on..lol..I cant beleive there is no better way of tuning it than trying to find the "GUY" who knows what it going on and has burned up a few and learned..I keep wanting to call HOLLEY and getting a 2.5 dominator kit..lol

Hot rodding that motor will be an excercise in diminishing returns. It will only go so fast no matter how much power you throw at it. It's like putting a 454 in a deuce-and-a-half and wanting to slap on a single plane/dominator what you really need is a tall deck 366 with 4 ring pistons and a governed 2 bbl...

The 'toon is a displacement hull and the 200 is plenty of power. I'm guessing you're going to need a fairly short pitched 4 blade prop to have good reverse thrust and low speed handling control. This will further limit your top speed. Otherwise you'll have to carry 20 passengers to push it back off the sand bar and that will be worse for performance than the short pitched prop.

I'd be looking for a set of 135 decals for the cowling if it was me...

I got ya..Yeah i am down to a 15 3/4 15 pitch at the moment..Ran 44 with it..The motor has not run right yet though..Had a local boat shop supposed to get me right but it just got worse and worse..Not out the hole power and started using gas like no other..I could tel it had an injector problem by looking at the plugs..So just while i have it down i wanted to do all i could while i am there anyways is what i am trying to do..If i can get into the mid 50's with the family on board i will be happy..The good from tearing it down is now i know the holes are good, pistons look right and just that will give me the peice of mind to move foward..The sport reeds, lighter flywheel, tune and injector service i think may get me there and still be reliable as it ever was im hoping..Cutting the heads i am not so sure about..I do want to get the compression atleast back to stock i guess..It has 130 plus or minus across the board now..I would get some aftermarket heads for now if i could find a set decently priced..I dont mind running premium and or a couple gallons of leaded race fuel to get the mix right..We are installing a 40 gallon tank while its down now also so i can mix big batches at once..The decals was a ebay purchase just to get something on the new paint..They not even put on in the right place i see too..The guy at the paint shop did that, but they on there now so ima leave them until it starts to peel or something..But anyways if i can get just one good season out of this thing where we can enjoy it now,i wont have any problems getting a rebuild next year if need be..
