Im not really sure, bullet type is a possibility. But just as an average, a 224 90grn bullet and a 6.5 creedmore 120grn bullet both travel about 3000 fps. All I can think of is that a 224 is close in size to 223/5.56 and those bullets tumble when they hit, causing a bigger wound. As far as I know. The 6.5 might go in straighter and tighter so maybe smaller wound. But Im open to other reasons. Smaller buller might come apart more on impact too, bigger one might stay in tact more. Im sure the 224 explode when they hit.

I’m anioux to put one below the ear with this 6.5 Grendel and see what a mess it makes , the bigger sow I shot yesterday was the first to catch the wrath of the 224 Grendel under the ear then had to shoot the next one on the run blew her spine out she dropped like a sack of taters too ... My next question to be answered is the wound from the 6.5 Grendel time will tell , review at 10:00 lol

6.5 is going to hit with some serious velocity. Great AR hunting round.

I haven't hunted with the Grendel but I have had great success with tipped bullets. The one's I used in my 30-06 exploded like little grenades. Several times I found a chunk of lung on the ground where the deer was when I shot it.

I like the ballistic tips they seem to fly truer , but on some calibers 6.5 Creedmoor i find no blood residue anywhere , so shot placement is key !

Well had a chance to observe wound this new 6.5 Grendel made on mid sized boar last night shot through a PSA AR 15 20” barrel 125 yard chip shot was slightly quartered away bullet entered 3-4 “ below the ear , down hill trajectory, exited at top of plate at shoulder and man I was impressed it took out meat and bone the size of a silver dollar 123 grain Horn. Ballistic plastic tip round off the shelf . The AR 15 6.5 Grendel and 224 Valkyrie have won my choice for all round gun in this class so far very light weight 8 lbs with optics and full 5 round mag and both tack drivers enough to feel confident in the field at any yardage from 100 to 600 no problem if you know your optics and ballistic charts ...

It’s rough , hunt anytime I want , it is getting hot here after dawn so hog will move to nocturnal feeding pattern , for those that don’t know a hogs anatomy they have no sweat glands and will die in the heat of the day if they can’t find shade or water to cool off so they go nocturnal when it’s cooler . I now reliey on game cameras to pattern their feeding times , I have motion lights that activate with movement at the corner of every feeder , I use optics that have lit reticles , when they show up the lights illuminate the group like daylight !!!

And the pigs don't get skittish from the lights??? Do they scatter after the first shot or is there a can on the end of your Grendel???

Hogs like deer have the wrong rod lengths in their eyes and can’t see green and red colors ( lights ) the lights come on under feeders and if deer or hogs there they never even stop eating . Yes they bolt after the first shot even suppressed guns after the first shot they scatter , if you take out dominant sow the group seem it be a bit confused and if your good ( which I’m not ) at getting on target quick you “can” get another shot , I hunt on a narrow pipeline right away so they have only 2 seconds to be back in brush , if your in an open field with thermal you have much longer to get on another running target ...
