    200 Mercury fuel system transfer

I have a 1992 Mercury 200 EFI engine. I want to replace the fuel system system all the way from where the fuel line snaps on from the tank, all the way to and including the injectors.

I have a chance to buy a 1991 Mercury 200 EFI engine complete.

    Will these parts interchange?

    Thanks.

Theoretically yes. Just because they will "interchange" doesn't mean they are the "same" though! The '91 may be a 7 petal motor and the '92 should be a 5 petal motor. The ecm calibration is probably different at least. I'm not sure exactly without looking it up. Go somewhere like boats.net and look up your motor and the other one and see if the parts you want to change are indeed the same.

I would probably just send your motor's existing injectors and ecm to Brucato and have them checked out. Get some fuel hose and o-ring for the VST and clean everything and reassemble. You would probably want to do this with the "new" unknown parts anyway just to know that you aren't exchanging your problems for someone elses!!!

If you end up needing any parts just buy what you need. You will then know exactly what you have and you might even save some money...

If buying the ‘91. I would pick the best block first and build from there. May not have any work to do except mounting it.

That said iirc the pcm/computer was a different part number. But components were mostly the same.

I almost want to recomend new, but I don’t know the why, as it could creep right back up on you with a year older parts.

The why is the motor I need parts for is a very low hour engine from new. It ran perfectly with occasional use until 1997 at which time I quit using it. Several years later, I tried to start it and a bunch of white sludge (water) had the fuel system plugged. Since then, the high pressure pump has stuck.

Buying all the parts I think I need new would run in to way more money than that engine is worth so I'm looking for used that are compatible.

I had figured on sending the injectors out to be cleaned/calibrated but if mine have had moisture sitting in them, they may not be salvageable.

I'm not new to turning wrenches but I'm very short on O/B motor knowledge.

I can buy the complete powerhead up for $300. That includes the PCM, starter, fuel pump (2), the whole fuel system, power trim unit. Should be worth taking a chance on.

    Thanks.

Or, is this the way to go with sending the whole fuel system in for cleaning?

    Just found this thread.
