Thanks guys. The merc manual states replacing the top housing complete with bearing is this true or can the bearing be pressed out?

If you own a small bearing cranked 260 they make a bearing that can be pressed in the OEM housing , a 280 has a press on bearing and race no problem all the rest is just a slip on ID bearing and the OEM race just slips over the same bearing as the middle main rollers ...Either way it’s very do able ... I do it weekly !

Heat and cold will amazingly make metal expand or contract ,

To the interested : I add a tee in the Oil check valve tygon tubing on front case half on every motor I build high in the tubing run 2” from top check run so the additional of real 2 cycle oil instead of the usual diluted oil gas mix heading upward to lube the upper weak bearing , i send an cheap pumper oil can with my builds and instruct customers give the tee a couple of squirts ever 3-4 times out , I never have upper bearing issues with this added ..
