    3.0 running rough at idle

So I have a 3.0 Looper that is supposed to have pistons and reeds in it but its only what ive been told. Its been tuned by Monty (so I was told). It runs great when running higher than idle rpm. When first started I expect a little putter until it warms up, but itll usually cut off a couple times before its warmed up. And idling it "coughs, sneezes or putters" not sure how to describe it. The carbs have been gone through and are clean. Not sure if its anything with the carbs or anything else, other than that it runs good. I will get a fresh set of plugs and see it that helps. Anything else I could look at. Not a Huge problem, but Kinda annoying.

Not sure what year carbs. Its a mismatched motor. The carbs have the 4 screw side plates and does not have the brass pullover tubes in them. There is another motor at my shop that is a 99 225 ocean pro, it has 5 screw side plates, idle screw adjustment not jet and it has the pullover tubes. I have a spare set that was given to me that is from a v8, they have 2 screw side plate and the pullover tubes. There are only 5 tubes, im gonna try to find another tube and put the set on my current carbs. Ill try to poste pics later. I read that I should/could put a fender washer on the center screw of the side plates, I read that itll help pull the plate down evenly, apparently if they leak itll cause a bad idle. Im gonna eventually rebuild all of them. Also the motor I have has a 2 small fuel pump setup, not the big single pump that I expected. Any info will be appreciated.

If u got 2 small pu.pumps sounds like previOS owner deleted the vro. Make sure your running oil in gas and not burning up motor, thus the poor running

all the throttle plates need to be completely closed at idle...loosen the shafts and get them all closed...if you are running without an air box you will have to rejet idle bleeds...

My Looper started sneezing at idle last year. Going to replace the reeds soon, should take care of my problem. When yours sneezes does any air/fuel blow back out the front of the carb?

weak or chipped reeds make it run rich on that cylinder since it's sucking and blowing over the venturi tube...sneezing means it's running lean, too much air or not enough fuel...

Thanks for additional info. I had started this thread previously:

    https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...er-idle-sneeze

Will be rebuilding the carbs and inspecting/replacing the reeds in the next few months (I'm in MN, no boating this winter, and apparently no snowmobiling this year either (unfortunately)).

    Any other ideas appreciated.
