Clark Marine GW Invader Race Boat - Looking for history

Recently purchased old race boat and am looking for the history on this boat. I understand it was raced by a guy near St. Louis. Sure would like to see a picture of it in it's heyday. Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Somewhere in this S&F website thread collection is quite a write-up on the entire history of the GW Invader company. Whomever authored this piece would probably have a line of info on your boat. If you can't find anything in S&F try searching the web for anything related to GW Invader boats.

Nah...…….I'm not buying it. It wouldn't even float with that kind of weight on the back. Note the blocks on the ground at the stern. I had a 50 hp Merc short shaft on my 10 GW Invader and had to feather the throttle slowing down to keep the transom well from flooding. but not that thing in the foto. Maybe a 65 SSMost GW 10 footers were equipped with drum / cable steering as RideGuide was too long and too big to fit.

I had a 15 foot, the one in your picture looks like the 14'. I recently just picked up an unmolested, original 1 owner Torpedo Tunnel by G.W. Invader, actual the very last one ever made. Been in a storage garage since 2007. Everything there.

If you go to youtube and search vintage Merc - you will see my yellow 15' running about 78 MPH on GPS

I remember Clark Marine down by St. Louis. Seems like a couple Hydrostreams ran out of there but it seems they were more into jet boats. I think Gary Broadway was in that area also. Wonder of they are still around.

They will float. When I was young, a guy had a 10' GW Invader with a 950 inline 6 Mercury ss on one. He had to really watch slowing down but it did float. Those motors probably only weighed around 240 ish. It really didn't run very well but they had it on there

Thanks for the correct weight. I couldn't find specs anymore. Don't want to tie up this man's thread but here is another pic of the Invader posted above. The motor is clearly hooked up. I would say the wood blocks are to keep the trailer from flying up in the air.

My Torpedo in 1971 - before and after I ran it thru a wave - took me and the seat right out the back of the boat! Broke the nose off.Click image for larger version.

Wow - guessing that was not fun. Did it sink? More details please on how it happened so I know what to stay away from. Thanks for sharing.

Were GW Invader boats competitive race boats in some parts of the country? I recall seeing a few of them around but never saw one being raced in OPC.
