Baker Prop Help
Hey Guys,
Just finished rigging my Baker 18 Mod VP. It has a 300 drag on it. With 12" Hyd JackPlate. 20" Mid Section. Currently has a 23 Mazco RE on it. What would you guys suggest for prop? I have heard the 28 Mazco might be the best prop. I have only ran it once last season before storage. She was proposing below 50mph with the current setup but didn't have much time to play with it as the wife was with me and I didn't see if I can power thru the porpoise. Any help on setup is appreciated. Thanks!

12 inches of set back on that boat is IMO to much. I would think since the drag needs to turn a fair amount of RPM a 26 would be better.

Chris I would think 6 would be good unless the boat is real heavy which I doubt. Yes on prop or an ET but on that a 24. IMO also check to make sure the ctr pod is straight.

The first Baker is a 86 with 2.5 inch of setback likes 24 re3 Mazco's.
The second Baker was my 85 ski boat which had the center sponson running all the way to the transom. For a ski boat, this one was on the lighter side. Deck was really thin.
The 85 had 200 Merc and a 6" setback and I think I added a 2" spacer it also like Mazco's but the re4 24p. It was hard to carry the bow with a passenger upfront so, I would have them sit in the back opposite of the driver.
I believe in 86 Jerry Baker altered the bottom mold and cut the center sponsons about 6" short of the transom to help with lift.
I like Bakers, I've had 3. It can be a challenge to find the correct setup on ski boats especially with interior and a load of fuel. We live near each other, I may have a couple props you can try.
I would listen to Racer, he help me with my set up.
Good luck.

Thanks Baker, that is a wealth of info!!! I think I may have way tooo much setback now that you confirmed. I will definitely take you up on the props offer. I am off Bolsa Chica and Edwards. I saw a Baker I think in someones driveway near my daughters school , St Bonaventure. Was that yours? Small world if so!
Love your ski boat setup. That's my exact model as well. Mine is an 87. I need to look at transom like you said and see if I have the cut back!
