    Gelcoat options???

So I have wet sanded, compounded, polished, and waxed my Viking. While 95% of the boat looks fantastic there are a couple areas that still have cloudiness. Yet in these areas I have just started to get into the metal-flake so I am at a stopping point. It looks great all in all and most people probably won't notice the cloudiness in the small areas. My worry is it will get worse once I am on the water and in the sun.

My question is before I put my new gauges, carpet, and interior in. Should/could I get a clear gelcoat sprayed on (if that's even possible) or would a clear coat be my only option? I am not ready to have a full bore paint restoration yet. As I plan on getting someone to do so who is top notch. Which I am sure will cost upwards of $5-$6k. That will be a few years down the road. So if I ended up with the less favorable chip and yellowing prone clear coat. Would that not be a good option to take knowing I am going to get the boat redone in a few years? I can live with it for now but fear it will cloud up and I will regret not doing something while the boat is easy to completely strip down.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I would enjoy it as is. If someone wants to be critical remind them that it's 40 years old and ask them where theirs is that is nicer!!!

Wow man you got her shined up verrrrry nice! Better than I thought possible really. I dont know bupkiss about gel coat repair but I think the worst thing about doing your own work is intimately knowing where the flaws are. Very few passer bys ever see them so dont let it eat ya up she looks great!

Thanks guys, I am going to keep her waxed frequently and polished/waxed periodically and see how she makes out. In a few winters I can strip her down and get it completely painted. I am just worried about getting her rigged and the upholstery done, then not being happy with the finish. It will just have to do. I can always spruce her up a bit. Thanks again!

You can buy clear gelcoat. Strip ALL wax, scuff lightly and lay it on.Sand, sand, and buff.Lots of work but way less than waiting till it needs a complete job.

looks great and as stated only u will be looking at the thin/cloudy areas,,,that others wont notice
downfall is the thin areas where ur right at the metal flake is the areas that will fade the fastest
I would put on a layer of real ceramic coating,,,,not the temporary spray on versions
this will stop sun uv from attacking all the sanded/polished areas
liquid armour is what ive been using at my glass shop to seal fiberglass and acrylic that has been sanded
and will super shine,,,,,,and less maintenance of keeping lots of layers of wax through time to keep the shine

I like all the options evryones given you. The final one is auto clearcoat. It will look fantastic. I had an 88 Ranger bassboat that badly needed a facelift. I shot clear over it and it look new.........after compound and buff. I didn't have to shoot the sides of the boat because the sun hadn't messed up the sides...just the inside and topside above the rubrail.
