250xs single ram to 3 ram swap?

How difficult is this swap? Ive heard of it being done before. I have a 302 Scarab Im trying to repower with a set of Optimax engines, but Ive only found a couple sets of XS engines. Im not rigged for it currently and dont want to add more pumps and holes to my transom. Do I need to swap the whole midsection or can just the transom mount and trim system be swaped?

Good news is you can swap clamp only. Bad news is that you have to pull powerhead to get to the nuts on top mount. May be less work to mount pumps.

I'm not sure how many rams they have, I was refering mainly to the external trim pump. If it was a feasable job to convert the remote pump to the pump on the motor.

they come factory with tha three ram production trim.. should not have single ram, pump in tha boat..…..

have you seen tha motors?

Have not seen them in person, one set is 2005 and the other is 2007 Both 250xs. Both owners have indicated that they have pumps in the boat.

You are 100% correct, the parts list on that site shows them with trim on the motors. But all of the owners ive talked to and pictures I could find on the web show external pumps for all XS engines. Not sure it would be worth the extra rigging on my boat. Are they any more or less reliable than a normal opti? High octane is not an issue, we have it at the marina.

The 250XS is available with Transome Bracket (Heavy Duty) which is single ram with pump in boat. In answer to your question If you get a 3 ram clamp bracket you can switch it and loose the pump in the boat and save some weight. Though I have broken a couple of the lighter standard 3 ram clamp brackets and changed over to heavy duty clamp on both my 250 efi and my 300x.

I am sure a XS motor can have either single ram with pump that mounts in boat. Or a 3 ram with internal pump. This a 2007 300XS with 3 ram on a boat i may or may not finish.
