    Biel Boats Are Back!

Hello all, brand new here. I am a casual boater who has had more sailboats the powerboats.
This Biel boat is only my second powerboat, and I'm old.
I have liked smaller boats as they are easier to handle, store and maneuver, sailboats included.
After unloading my 16' Sugarsand jet boat, I was not sure I would get into anther boat.
I was looking for small but still exciting. ...Looked, searched & surfed, not totally serious. The Biel Promise kept catching my eye.
Searches brought me to the Biel boat site and here at Scream and Fly. I find out the boat hasn't been built in 20 years, but is tooling up to give it another go. Very cool and good timing for me.

So... the molds have been refreshed and I am first in line! Its a one off at this point and the owner & builder are hoping to see a Biel comeback.
I am buying a turnkey boat from Mike Biel, so we have to stick to the USCG max hp rating. That is fine for me as I just want a sporty runabout. TLM will build bare boats as I understand to power them up as desired.

Many know the history - its a good history of this boat, and we know it can go pretty fast for its size.
So here are initial pics of a sweet little tunnel hull. Not finished but Twisted Liquid Marine can turn them out fairly quick. No hurry, its winter!
This boat will have some teething as it has been upgraded and engine availability is different from the old days.
I will update as this boat gets built - its probably a couple of months out, guessing.
Maybe the owner or builder will chime in, as I know they are pretty excited to turn this boat out.
I feel lucky and will learn a lot here on Scream and Fly, and from Mike Biel.
    Cheers

Hello Torben, I believe the rating is 70 hp. Remember, its only 13' long.
Here is an older thread on S&F with some top speed with the Biel boat... https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...Biel-Catamaran
He was the guru on this boat and a major reason I took the plunge on this boat.
Mike Biel has some good info & videos on his site also. http://bieltunnelboats.com He is a good guy to talk to as has been said in the past.
He is putting a nice package together for me.

Twisted Liquid Marine is a Havasu, AZ company. Here is their Facebook page that has a lot more about these Biel rockets

    https://www.facebook.com/TwistedLiquidMarine/

Look forward to hearing how the changes to the sponsons behave.

I believe Domin8er boats are in the same building. A lot going on in there, thus a fairly quick & professional build for the new Biel.

I am being slightly tight lipped on my boat, as I would like to put pics with the info as the build comes along, as the boat will be Mikes flagship comeback boat. At least until the next build comes along!

Mike knows how to set up his own boat, but technology has evolved over the years. He is researching gearcase size and gear ratio, prop size, and at least as important is engine weight. A modern two stroke is heavy, although my boat will have a etec on it. Trying to keep it fairly light.
The balance of this boat may be better with the slight changes it has. This boat may be a test mule to dial in future boats, but we know it has a good pedigree.
For me, this boat will look good with modern features (not a stripped boat), jump on a plane quick, and I hope be a sweet runabout. I will let someone else be the top speed guy. 50-55mph is our goal.

Yes vnemous, a major reason I pursued this boat (I read most of demeanors experiences), although I don't need top speeds such as that. Its more about the higher freeboard, decent seating and the ability to get along in less than perfect water. Plus maybe I will grow with this boat over the years (speed wise).

Forward bulkhead being placed. All from scratch on the first boat. I believe TLM will do composite also.
