Need to bond leather to aluminum, any thoughts?

I have this odd application of elastic strap and leather with a flip lid that gets held in place by the elastic and a grommet. I need to bond the leather to the aluminum good n strong permanent type deal it gets used a LOT. I was first thinking epoxy, then I was thinking JB weld, then I started humming and hawwing and wondered about marine tex so I thought what better place to ask than here. What say you all? How should I bond this together?

On the outside of the leather, put a short strip of more aluminum - and rivet them together. Like a sandwhich - Aluminum, leather, aluminum - riveted all together. Or just rivet the leather to the aluminum with some wide washers. That's how they do it on old fashioned motorcycle seats.

I wish I could do that but in this case it must be bonded the exterior has to remain smooth no holes, no rivets or bolts.

Can't you just use a good contact adhesive. Used correctly that stuff is pretty much permanent.

I would but the fitment requires some work time and contact cement is instant bond.

There's some stuff called "shoe goo" made for shoes and other odd surfaces. I have used it on my tennis shoes with 100% success. Black or clear.

I think I remember someone testing marine tex years ago sticking different odd stuff together with it. It seems like wet leather was one of the test items. Of course my memory could be wrong...

Barge cement. Red/yellow package with toluene is the original receipe. Blue pack has no toluene and is easier to find

What about a double hinge of sorts with the aluminum rivet sandwich described above. Do it all 180 degrees out then final wrap of leather will fold up over the rivets.
I hope I explained that right.

If I was starting from scratch I would do something like this. I have retrofit leather parts all fabbed and ready with the caps, collars, locks all cast and riveted together that I want to use.
