    Hydraulic Steering Question

I have a 1986 Ranger 375V with a 80's model 175hp. Boat will do from 56-58 gps. I need to replace steering cables and I'm sure the helm needs replacing too. I was wondering if I could get away with the HK4200A-3 kit. I know it is rated for up to 150hp so probably not. I know this is not where you want to skimp on but wondering if anyone else has done it and their results. Thanks, Danny.

Hell no. The bay star system is ok for slow boats with small power. Hell even the seastar tech will suggest upgrading at any HP over 115. I wouldn't dare use it on any thing that's semi quick or with that much power.

If you ever looked at one up close you wouldn't use if either.

I would reccomend a seastar pro system, it's not about cost, remember if it fails bad things happen, keep the quality!

What part would likely fail on the Bay Star system if its over powered? I use one on a 75hp now but plan to upgrade to a 150hp. The steering works fine for the 75hp, and at least does not seem stressed at all.

You could blow the seals out from to much psi, I run one on a 3.4 e tech you can get the seastar pro for 1000 to 1500 depending on how much u look, ask around and you may find a dealer on here that can hook u up cheap

Seals and lines. If it's a "normal" non performance boat it will probably be ok. But I'd still upgrade to the normal sea star set up

The estimated speed with the 150 is 65mph. High performance no, but good performance yes. I don't want to spend the $ but most of you will say I should

ive installed it on my 18'' with a 150 and Ive had no issues They rated it for up to 150 so I went with it.
Its no hot rod speed demon so I didn't worry. Im running 55mph GPS usually cruise around at 40-45mph so Im still not worried.

Currently, I've got a Mirage Ski-Racer with a 260 EFI with a NFB cable setup on it now and frankly, it's just too hard to steer. I've tried everything to make it easier. Clean/lube the cables and steer tube, nothing works. you have to put a lot of effort into turning the wheel, then when it breaks free, you end up over steering. So you're constantly correcting.

I'm looking to install a SeaStar HC5435-3 (1,500psi MAX) cylinder, SeaStar Pro 2.4 ci/rev helm (1,500psi relief valve) and the 1,500psi kevlar lines.

The HC5345-3 cylinder volume is 8.34ci. So with this combo, I should end up with 3.5 turns lock-to-lock.

I noticed on SeaStar's website that they don't recommend the HC5345-3 with surface piercing props or boats that exceeded 75mph.

Can anybody could tell me why they don't recommend the 5345? I see 5345-3 s installed on boats with twins.

I don't own hydro steering but will b upgrade I'm looking for also, once u start surfacing props, only thing that's helping counter steer is torque tab,if have one, the torque on the wheel becomes alot more and will add alot of stress to seals and such , maybe just enough to blow one and loose all steering, the torque of sum these motors while surfacing puts ALOT stress on system
