All core martial has been bedded at this point. The balsa is kinda fun to work with, so light and easy to cut and sand. All core was bedded into a very wet layer of 1.5oz csm after getting two coats of resin brushed onto the core. I ended up doing a double layer of core in the rear 6.5' of the pad. 1708 was laid over top of the first layer and allowed to cure before the second went on. Used the shingles to to keep some weight against the balsa as it cured. Thanks for that idea Outasite!

Core is now completed. Edges faired out with a mix of cabosil and milled fibers and everything scuffed with a 36g. Layer of 1708 has been laid up over entire core extending beyond the edge of the balsa by about 4" The 1708 was laid in two pieces, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get one large piece down at once before the polyester started to kick. Plus I thought the area where the second layer of core started in the pad would need some extra attention. I added some cabosil paste above the core down the center in the bow. That valley was kinda sharp and having the paste there when laying the glass let me shape it at the same time. Everything went pretty well with two people helping. Haven't had a chance to look it over closely since it's cured, but I did notice a spot or two where theres some bubbles that need to be addressed.
Up next, stringers! I'll be building them out of two layers of 1/4" 3ply marine plywood laminated together with CSM between. Plan is to make the outer two about 4-5" tall rather than the 2-3" factory. The center two will have knees extending to nearly the top of the transom and will go further forward in the bow beyond where the factory stopped.
Oh, and my new gauges arrived. I'm also planning to run a hight gauge for the jack plate.

Looks great indeed! The outer two stringer on mine are 5" high. Later model I guess they started doing that to some. Foam is under the cap and not present in the hull at all thankfully. Looks cleaner and usable side wells too

Thanks guys! I wouldn't be this far along without your help/advice. I sure hope to "fly it" this summer! At least as much as a stock 175 will let me. I've adjusted my goal to the 4th rather than Memorial Day

Slow and steady progress. Made some foam templates for my stringers. Figured I'd ask you guys if you think its worthwhile to extend the center stringers forward into the footwell like I have here? I wanted to go further forward with the centers but, they would end up being so short with the footwell and the bow coming up, I figured I'd stop them there. I lengthened the stringers with a 45* 45* double miter and then laminated the two layers of 1/4" together with the splices on opposing ends. Planning to have them bedded into the hull next weekend.
From what I've read I should add an extra layer of 1708 about 6" or so wide on top of the layer covering the core where the stringers will sit. I plan to bed the stringers into a carbosil/milled fiber putty and tab them in with overlapping layers of 1708.
Does the height of the footwell look about right? Mine was out before I started the project. I know it needs to extend further forward, i just cut this piece of wood from some scrap to get an idea on height. If anyone could grab dimensions of their footwell in a Viking it would be much appreciated!
I'm hoping to get the floor in by the end of the month.'78 Hydrostream Viking/'98 225 ProMax

Here are a couple pictures that may help.Basicly the seat box is 15" wide, and 10" tall at the center of the pad. Also here is picture that shows how the seat lines up using the three bolts from the top deck as a reference.Keep in mind the picture is taken from an angle.I will have mine turned right side up in a few days and can get you accurate measurements if your not to far along.

If it helps, here is what the footwell in my Vulture looks like with it finished. The Vulture and the VKing share the same floor set up pretty much. Im not using any raised seat box or anything. Just have some 1/2 pads to mount the seats too. Then again being 6'2" sitting lower just felt better for me so I'm not sitting so high up. and being a Vulture, I also moved the seat position back about 6-8 inches from where it would have been from the factory just to try and get as much weight in the back as possible. I wouldnt do that in a VKing though.
By the way, this thing is looking great! Hopefully we will both be on the water this summer and maybe meet up somewhere.-Kevin

I have a lot of pics on my 1st rebuild link, check it out. I used a pc to raise the frt floor and installed my foot throttle block on the right and it works well.
