    Leaking exhaust divider promax

Just installed new reeds, injectors , Brucato ACU and ditched my oil injection. Noticed the bottom left corner of my divider gasket is blown out and has been leaking exhaust, not water. It’s all oil/carbon built up in that corner. First question am I safe to run it for a hour or two to test the new parts. Second does this is an air leak do anything to performance? Third pro marine has a standard and a metal gasket, which ones better? Thanks!

Don't think it would really hurt anything UNLESS it somehow gets water in that area and sucks in cold water on the #6 piston which could be catastrophic. Since I have never seen this I have never used anything other than the standard gasket. Check those surfaces closely before re-assembly. I have seen exhaust cut thru aluminum. I guess that might be a reason not to run it. Probably be safest to switch out gasket before you test new parts.

Please don’t tell me I have to pull the whole powerhead to change the exhaust divider gasket? Right now it’s hanging up on the lip of the damn pan and won’t slide out. Can’t get the pan off without pulling the powerhead. Is there something I’m missing?

Try taking the bolts out that hold the pan to the plate and sliding it back..seems somewhere in my memory bank that's what i had to do whenever that was lol.

That may work. I decided just to pull it. I want to swap the poppet out too. I did it last year but have never felt quite right about it lol basically did it by feel
because of the pan. Now I’ll be able to do it right and sleep better at night haha. Does merc not make a poppet kit? Can’t find anything online besides the Sierra crap.

Yes, they do make a popet kit. Make sure the piece in the block is sitting properly.
For exhaust divider I like to use the ProMarine 2701-1 Make sure is the -1

I’m assuming to go with the high performance base gasket? Looks like a big difference between the two tho.

    Popet kit.
    Merc-803062T1
    ProM - 8030-1

PH Gasket like stated by Capt you need 2
    Merc- 27-823142
    ProM - 2693A

Divider 2701-1 this is the one I like to use and come with the motor. It is reinforced with metal like the PH gaskets.
You can get the 2701 and it’s a bit cheaper.

Pulled this divider today. Starboard bank has a lot more built up carbon that the port bank. Is that kind of normal? Piston tops and plugs look identical on all 6

Also how good does that rubber strip need to seal? It’s in decent shape and there’s no way that thing creates a perfect seal.

and for the poppet? The stainless washer with the the lip on it, does that lip face in towards the block or out towards the plate?
