Crating an outboard / keeping straight?

Did mercury supply one on motors that did not have holes in front? just a hole for steering bolt....

I am attaching a picture of one used with 2 holes in front of tiller arm.

Mercury used a bracket attached to the steering tube to the arm for shipping. The bracket attached to the tube with a nut.

Keep it straight evens out weight and much safer.
Make one, just need a piece of steel or 1/8" aluminum put a 90* bend. Make sure to use a fine thread bolt in the arm that fits correctly, do not under size to not damage the threads.

An offshore motor uses a different bracket. The one you show is for the non-offshore motor. The offshore bracket has 2 holes in front and has a 90 degree bend over the top of the tiller arm and has one bolt hole and bolts into the tiller arm

Crating an outboard / keeping straight?

I have attached a photo of how I keep the motor straight in shipping. I have used this method on all the motors I have shipped over the years without any problems. It not only keeps them straight but holds them down as well.
    Thanks
    Gary

You can NEVER secure or protect these things enough, heck no! Proper crating is BEST insurance you can have!
In addition to front tiller bracket I make the piece that Mecury uses around the prop shaft out of 3/4" plywood.

For shipping I only use 2 companies! Frank Mole Transport or R&L Carriers! Neither one has ever let me down!!
