    X-115 Evinrude

I have said before, I think one of the prettiest and coolest engines of its time. There were a couple on the river when I was a kid with a 12' boat and an 18 Evinrude. We were drawn to them like moths to a flame. But they don't show up on the vintage circuit much if at all. Any one have any runners out there that they use? Any good pictures or stories? I always thought they were good engines. How did they compare to others of the time?

You don't see that many of them now because Merc made 10 to 15 times as many race motors. Ralph and Charlie only made enough of them to make the impression that they were out there.

I don't know how many they made, I had 2 at different times and really liked them . They were reliable other than the prestolite ignition. There were a number of good factory up-grade parts available and a legal exhaust port mod. Probably the best help for racers were the O.M.C. cleavers . As far as how fast, Terry Leatherby set the UI 5 mile record at 74 and change at 74 Eufaula Nationals. I think the class was dead the next year and replaced by Mod 90

Here's a good one of Terry's UI rig at Lake St. Mary's. My dad still has this motor, which was built by Harold Nauss.
Dad built the X115 on the vampire for someone, can't remember who. Brochure page from 1968.

Dale, you got one of them from me, I owned it through the winter and never put it on a boat. If I remember correctly, I traded it to you for the CV16 and you put a 135 powerhead on it.
That motor came off Roddie's red CV16 that he sold to a local guy. Was this the one that was on Roger's Allison when you bought it?

The first X-115 was on the Allison when I bought it from Roger. The second X-115 I got from you. I couldn't remember who I got it from. I thought it was probably Roddie but couldn't really remember. Didn't it come from Reds Marine originally ? One or the other of them ended up with the half stinger parts 135 powerhead on it.
