    Understanding Setback?

Trying to understand what setback changes can do? Currently have 400's twins on 29' cat, with 7" setback. I recently rode in 36 with maybe 4" setback (at most) and that boat got on plane so easy, where mine brings the bow up and takes a lot longer to roll over. Now granted the 29 is a centerpod where the 36 was not. Once the 29 has planed it runs fairly flat, but at top end it needs a lot of trim out and bow rides higher then I like. I feel I need more stern lift? My top end speed still lower then should be and running engines high at 2 3/4 " above. What would moving the engines forward a couple of inches do? Thanks

Usually set back on smaller boats have more of an advantage on changes on how the boat runs not bigger cats. More setback the easier to carry the bow..simple

It sounds to me like you are comparing a 36 Doug Wright to a 29 Nordic. That is an apples and oranges comparison if so. Post what boat you have and someone will be able to give you some input on possible changes or better yet, who to contact that has set one up correctly.
