    96 mercury 200 efi idling to high

    I am in breaking period right now and my Merc is idling to high. I am ordering a new tach. Even with gauge being crazy I know it is idling to high. What should I check?

    Trigger may not be returning to stop. Air leak on the intake side. Timing.

    Ok the tach was acting up before I rebuild the engine. I will check the intake make sure I didn’t mess up gasket or something.

    Once I left off the rubber gasket that surrounds the intake that the front cover sits against and the idle was more like wfo. Good luck.

    Yea I left that off when I was putting it back together. Had to take back apart and put it on.

    Which gasket are you talking about. Only gasket I had was intake gasket ?

    The rubber that goes between the cover and the housing the injectors are in. Maybe that’s called air box. There is also a gasket between air box and reeds.

    I just built a motor and thought well I didnt see that seal. I'm runnin carbs tho. Gud luck with your fix.
