175 Optimax Pro XS
I am looking to buy a 175 Pro XS Optimax...and have located one.
Are these pretty good motors? Its going on an 18 Action, and really want to stay with the 2.5 weight....and the 200 XS 2.5 is a pricey unicorn.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks!Last edited by Ventura Boy; 10-19-2018 at 08:55 AM.

Good motors and have 190 hp. Will get crazy good fuel economy. Did have some coil issues on the 06 and older models.

Don't have any experience with them, but from what I've read:
1) They use the Optimax tehchnology which is pretty mature as far as reliability and and fuel consumption by now
2) As mentioned are really about 190hp
3) Have the composite reeds (the first mod I would put in a motor without them)
Seem to be a good choice. So after you buy it give me a ride

Have one on my Stoker, very happy! REplaced 2.4 Bridgeport, has been very reliable, only regret is I can't afford the 200XS which would be the ideal set up, IMHO!! had it 8 years 300 hours no issues!
why ask me ?

Are there years after '06 that are better than others or are they all the same from 2007 to 2017?

you can get a good 200xs for about 6-7000. if you boat will handle it. both my 200xs are from 2004 and a good runners. max out at 80mph on a voyager . with 7.4 mpg max. the dyno for the 200xs in 2004 was 225 but i think that was a little too hi. either the 175 or 200 will make good motors.
