Final fit on ladder bar, plate on top will allow pass-thru bolts to a brace on top of the splash well to hold the top of my transom height extension. (Looking for cav plate to be an inch above the bottom)

While waiting for resin to dry I pulled the starter for a new drive, cleaned up the commutator, installed new ring gear. (new ring gear had tooth lead-in reliefs, original did not)

Does any body remember how simple and how much fun it is to work on these old dinosaurs?

    I had forgotten.

What's the idea with the electric choke setup. I've only needed to hold choke closed for three seconds to start, then it's on its own unless it's near freezing outside, then an extra second. How fast a heat coil , I see it's dialable.

That tube from the carb to the exhaust plate is how Erude snuck in the turbocharger that fooled Merc guys when racing for pink slips.......And has a highly restive chunk in the exhust cavity to warm up the choke.....probly why they had a rep as gas hogs......X115 exhaust plate had wedges cast in for better flow. You have a mag now set them points......

Just for kicks, maybe pull those transfer covers and heads. Load the cylinders with cotton balls and file things square.
Last one I saw running in action was an erude about the same year. Had a mad idle and was chugging back the fuel. Was on a Springbock I think. Long time ago, went real well. Went on plenty of rides in that one, good running boat.

Could do a tripod mount for a ski tow now that you're closing in?

    Who'd a thunk.

Only 50 short years and you have to disassemble the magneto, clean and pack the bearings, adjust the points.

What ever happened to quality in the workplace?

I had to make a good one out of two. only lit myself up 4 or 5 times.

I'm guessing those are solid core wires. I'd check continuity end to end while twisting, bending them gently. The plug end sometimes will wear and need a little cut off and refitted.

Wondering about those downdraft carbs and plenum to and through the reeds. Must be room for some shaping and stuffing, cages as well. Could probably do some good fine tuning on this motor top to bottom.
Someone must still have the book on tweaks for this one, like eliminating that heat tube, a bit of port work, the chest signal and down turn to tuner , heads psi, lower exhaust relief above cav.
