So sad. Anyone know these people or the boat?
https://www.wfla.com/news/hillsborough-county/st-pete-man-killed-woman-injured-after-boat-hits-piling-near-skyway-bridge/1521764168
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) - A man was killed and a woman was seriously hurt after their boat crashed near the Skyway Bridge early Saturday morning, officials said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) identified the man as 53-year-old Michael Anderson of St. Petersburg.
Officials said Anderson and 50-year-old Cheryl Iorio were aboard a boat in the Tampa Bay shipping channel when the vessel struck a Ranger Marker piling and both were hurt.
Officers were called to the scene at about 4 a.m. and Anderson and Iorio were both rushed to the Bayfront Hospital. Anderson died of his injuries and Iorio is listed in serious condition, officials said.
FWC officers are working to remove the vessel from the piling, but said the boat is not currently creating any hazards for boaters.
Further information was not immediately available.

4AM is what happened. Very few good things happen with fast boats or fast cars at that hour of the morning.

It was very dark on fri night. Also, a lot of background lights in that area. Easy to confuse exactly where you are in the channel with many blinking red lights from towers in the distance. Range markers are outside the channel.... May have not been shown on his gps either. Sad, no matter how it happened.

I will suggest before anyone else makes comments about being drunk or suggestions of inebriation... you look at the Coroner's toxicology reports on the findings and that the FWC investigation is not leaning that way either. Think Justice Kavanaugh and how allegations turn to other smears.
A call to a close friend at FWC said they have removed the GPS from the boat, that it was active and they are downloading the track. If the marker was not seen by Mike or the map did not clearly mark it, then such information needs to be updated so this type of incident doesn't happen again.
I will agree speed was an issue as both motors broke THROUGH the transom and into the hull from the impact.

4 am was when they found them...does not indicate when the incident may have happened though. Sad situation for sure though.
