Damn, I just had to do a little search this chopper ride cost. (Heck I got them for free in Vietnam!)
Hard to believe some found, but knowledge is a good thing....(some C+Ps)
The average air ambulance trip is 52 miles and costs between $12,000 to $25,000 per flight.
Medical helicopters save lives, but are they always necessary? That's the question one man is asking after getting stuck paying 20 percent of a big bill.
The cost of a medical airlift for his wife didn't concern Jim Findley until the bill landed in his mailbox. “About $25,000 for a 46-mile ride.”
Jim’s wife had symptoms that led an emergency room doctor to order her to be taken by medical helicopter from Red Oak, Iowa to an Omaha hospital. His wife was released in a day after treatment for stress, which Jim says the family’s bank account is feeling because of a nearly $5,000 deductible, which insurance won't pay. “I can't second guess the doctor, but I think the problem with most families is the cost.”
A Montgomery County Memorial Hospital spokesman says calling in a helicopter is based on patient’s stability, deteriorating condition and test results, but need is discussed with the patient if capable or a family member if available.
Jim says need or cost never came up until the $25,000 bill came in. “Very shocking, I thought there was a mistake.” When a helicopter is called in by a doctor or authorities at the scene, cost is not discussed with the patient or relatives. “Give us an option or at least explain what the cost is going to be.” Findley says in some cases patients and relatives should be reassured that the need for a medical helicopter is well grounded."
How much does an air ambulance flight cost?
But Mr. Sherlock, of the air ambulance trade group, calculated that the cost of an average flight was $9,000 to $10,000. By using more aggressive efforts to secure payments and charging an average of $40,000, Air Methods may be collecting more from patients than other operators do.
"Does Medicare cover air lift?
Medicare will cover the cost of the ground ambulance transportation, but won't cover air ambulance transportation because this level of service isn't medically reasonable or necessary.

I'm sure this is just one insane bill/invoice you guys have gotten. Confident or at least praying you will get them to a realistic number.
If not just settle for a payment of $25 per month!.......
The most important thing she is doing well, going to Lavalette and then home with you guys!........

Tux makes a good point and it is reality if you make a payment of $25 every month at the same time you are not penalized and it does not affect your credit. Same payment same time of month=a good chance they will leave you alone and might write some off. But the good is the great progress and the great loving family Megan has, Megan remains in our prayers and thoughts as do the family and friends. Rick

Tony I was thinking of setting up a Bill Pay of more like $5 a month, the gift that keeps giving
And yes living at the Jersey Shore it was time to get Miss Megan out and see what shes been missing for the last 10 weeks. We crossed another milestone yesterday, she took a sip of water and was able to swallow it which she hasn't done yet but is imperative to getting her off the feeding tube and getting her muscles strong enough to start speaking more clearly and often.Seems like little things but so important that it goes down the right tube and you don't aspirate.

Morning, we received an envelope with more donations from HStream1 (Bud Connor) yesterday. I would like to thank those who donated items to Bud who in turn restored and powder coated them for sale to benefit our daughter Megan. I cant thank those who donated or those who purchased enough and Bud you know how we feel about you, you are one amazing human being. I just need to know if you have a GPS tracker on my Hoe?
Megan is doing better everyday, Tomorrow we go back out to Temple University to see her Heart Specialist, they would like to do an MRI just to make sure there was no damage during her cardiac arrest. She has started swallowing water and apple juice a couple of days ago and has been eating small portions of apple sauce. She still receive her feedings 5 times a day thru a tube in her stomach. I believe it was a couple days ago she motioned to us she was having chest pain. Immediately we down loaded her pace maker to Temple and my brother in law who is a medic brought over a monitor and ran a strip on her. Everything was normal. Temple said everything with her pace maker was fine. We gave her some antacid and the pain went away. So we are chalking it up to the apple sauce in a throat that hasn't seen food in 12 weeks. Yes every little ache and pain scares the heck out of us. Her speech is coming along while probably only discernible to family She has two benefits this week and is adamant that she will attend both. We visited the rehab she was at for 5 weeks. The people there could not believe the progress she has made in the 2 weeks since her departure. Of course everyone from the janitor to the head of the rehab had to hug her. They say she is their 2nd miracle. Our local community has been outstanding as all our out of state friends.
Greg she loves the tablet, just doesn't have the finger coordination yet but she keeps it on her night stand and screws it up every day
Ok enough for now. Updates as they come.
Once again thank you for everything

Just and update:
So Megan Lynn had a follow up today with her Neurologist. She had an EEG done two weeks ago that was the follow up to the one she had at Temple University Hospital and the results are in. The EEG at Temple showed slowing of brain function in the rear lower portion of her brain. Her more recent EEG shows none of that any more and is perfectly normal now. Dr Ferencz said we can now start cutting her back on some of the meds she is taking. Has another EEG scheduled in 4 weeks to make sure there is no seizure activity. She has been eating lots of mushy food with hopes of getting off the feeding tube in 6 weeks. Also Her speech is getting clearer every day also and she is able to get up on her own with no help. We found that out the other day when Deb left her in her chair in the living room to take a shower and when she came back she was in her recliner eating cookie dough. Deb said how did you get that and Megan got out of the recliner, went to the refrig and put it back and went back and sat down. Its progress ever so slowly but moving forward. Go Megan Lynn
Again I want to thank everyone for their prayers and generosity. So far so good. Hoping for a Full Recovery New Year. She keeps telling me she cant wait to get back to work.
