How to increase water pressure 3.0 sportmaster

    Hi,

My 18 ft Hydrostream Virage with 12 inch bob's jackplate and 300xs with 1.62 sportmaster runs the fastest when I jack up till the water pressure drops. When I go up higher speed comes up but then the gardian mode gets in because low pressure. Now I run 109 mph and centerline torpedo approx 1 a 1.5 inch above centerpad. Was thinking to install a transom pickup but think its not worth for the last inch higher because the transom pickup will create drag and only use it for the last few mph. Read that some guys do some mods to their sportmaster so they can jack up higher any ideas or pics what I can do? Saw some pics that they close the 2 starboard water inlets but not sure if thats to increase pressure. I run a 14.75x34 Spinelli dr4 and a 15 x 34 humpback cleaver.

Titus was doing some mods for the sportmaster.. I remember reading a bass and walleye boat artical years ago where they did it on a stroker/300X and they were able to raise the motor higher and pick up several mph. I think they called it the Titus sportmaster mini mod.

Thanks that's exactly what I mean! My boat will be faster for sure when its possible to jack up higher but think its not worth to add a external water pickup because that will also create drag. So I can drill the water inlet a little longer in the prop direction. If I can jack up a 1/2 inch higher I am already happy

I saw a real nice water intake modification on a members (JPEROG) lower unit at Jasper that might interest you. Maybe reach out and ask him about it.

The sportmaster mod I saw looked pretty good and effective.

I don't think easy is the correct term but it is effective. The down side is that it raises he danger meter every time that you are running less skeg in the water. Its also hard on propellers.

Yes, it worked well! Will see if I can find a picture.
I will agree with Joe. Be very careful because it can lose steering, break a skeg, prop shaft or a blade when running hard high.
Twin applications is much more forgiven.
    Be careful!!

What I see in one pic of the motor running is you have nosed out of the swell. I’m not sure more setback would help though as you would just be moving the whole unit and not changing drag forces. I did expect to see more roster tail though something like a drag boat at that speed. Looks good just expected more and I like flat tails. I imagine you have tried trim/ angle of attack changes. Looks like mods is what’s left.

All I have seen was filling in the groves and adding skeg

    Thumbs up

    hey,
I ran in to some sea wheed which clogged up my cooling water intake, and this made my day compleetly different. Therefore I did a second intake including a filter, an dit works quite fine. See my photo album.
    https://www.screamandfly.com/album.php?albumid=2528

    and Youtube.

And because it actually sucks water this way, must make better water pressure at the other side. Because less suction power is required. And I belve the drag is less than the traditionally intakes.

What you guys think will it make some difference in water pressure if I just drill the holes a little longer to prop direction? Because of the shape of the lower the inlets will be a little deeper then stock. Or will it have some downsides in handling and performance? Still didn't made a decision what I will do with my lower only looking for holding presure so I can jack up a little higher.
