2002 Pro Max 225X with Fresh Rebuild- $6500 OBO

2002 Mercury 225X Outboard with fresh complete rebuild by Hoffman Marine. New Pistons, bearings, new computer , complete new wiring harness, injectors cleaned, lower unit freshened up. Torque Master Lower. New alternator and belt. Comes with oil tank. Motor is perfect. I spent over 5K on getting the motor in perfect running condition. Motor has maybe 35 hrs and just thru completion of break in period. I bought a Ranger 520 bass boat 5 years ago with this motor and had it rebuilt last April. I'm upgrading to a new 250 Mercury. Cowling and exterior appearance is in excellent condition. You can contact me at 662 538 1339 or Hoffman Marine - Contact Dennis Hoffman at 901 277 2151. The marine dealer is checking everything out on the motor and removing the engine to install my new motor. These are hot running motors for lighter bass boats or light performance ski/pleasure boats. They just weren't meant to run on heavy/tournament loaded bass boats. Motor is completely stock. No modifications at all. $ 6500 OBO

Serial plate calls it a 225X as do all the other decals and items different than Pro Max engines under the cowling. Its not a Pro max.
    Here's the differences....
    Both engines are standard efi.
The 225x has the down draft intake with a single throttle shutter like the opti, also has an alternator like the opti but doesn't have the air compressor.
The 225 promax has the traditional ignition system(stator, trigger, switch box, ect.)
The 225x has the new style ignition(crank position sensor, new style ecm, and cdm's). The promax has head gaskets.
    The x has o-ring heads.
    Hope that helps out.

My owners manual says this under specs....guess they do call these Pro Max 225X engines after all. Learn something new every day. Been a good motor but I need more torque from a 3.0 liter engine . My boat is 2800-2900 # tourney loaded. Dealer says I'd be more pleased with a 250 Pro xs engine. I've got one of the last new ones ordered.

    Pro Max 225X Specifications:

    Full Throttle RPM - 6800

    SmartCraft Compatible

    Alternator System Belt-driven 60 amp

    Fuel/Oil Ratio Electronic Singlepoint

    Recommended Fuel 92 Octane

    Shaft Length 20" (508 mm)

    Weight 375 lbs. (170 kg)

A 225X is a Pro Max. The difference is the X has an Optimax style downdraft intake, o-ring heads, alternator and runs a Motorola PCM(2002 and up). The older Pro Max (2001 and down) has the Laser injection, Stator ignition and charging system and Cummins/ Nipon Denso computer.

Unlike the earlier Promax 225's the "X" model is Smartcraft ready. Dennis or any Merc shop can plug right into the ECU and give you a full printout fyi.
