I would say 2 courses of 3/8'' with the glass in between.

Which witch? Think the witch of the east, but the witch of the west has some nasty tricks up her skirt. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
However, agree about the double layer so long as the bond is good.

how would you build that, bag both layers together?

steel is stronger but if you want light strong carbon has to be involved
then there is the technology of stiff hull with no frames, and the weight crossover of that?

Never consider any type of core as providing "strength".

For a small boat a nitrogen core will provide less bow lift than helium!

Ether 1700 and epoxy,or vinal ester,1708 and mat.Im leaning towards the old school balsa, vinal ester.A process that I'm familiar with.My first balsa core lasted 37 years and ultimately failed due to impact damage. So I'll need the next one when I'm 104

Nothin like gp poly under the core. I’d finish the job with it.

GP resin to set the core /1708 and some vinyl over it would be a good combo. Or, you could use the pre made core bedding compound to set the balsa in and vinyl/1708 over it. Setting core in resin and matt can be a PIA. (it wants to float) The core bond putty makes it a lil easier to get a good bond since it's not a liquid.

Any advantage here using one of the honeycomb type non wood products. Same bonding to bedding process? Up the sides too?
