Ive been researching year differences for 300xs motors, can't find much, anyone have any info? Any year model to stay away from? Or updates?

I think all of them are basically the same. The later models have the updated compressor and some of the newer ecu's cannot be reflashed. Think thats about it.

Early models had to have premium fuel. Later ones could adjust for regular.

It is in the pcm I believe. Scan might show it....It just changes timing and reduces performance using crap fuel. Run some good fuel and it optimizes the performance. I'm not a tech, but I remember when this was advertised early in the XS's history.

If you are in the bahamas and all that's available is regular, and it's not even fresh fuel you would love that feature.

I knew the later model 250xs could use regular fuel. I have never heard that the 300xs was the same.

I am planning a long river trip into areas where there may only be 85 octane, so that would be interesting to know. 1/2 way thru my 2) 70 gallon tanks of 91, I'm fairly confident with a 50/50 mix. That will get me to my destination.

I believe 85 only @ the river destination, now, how do I get home?

I guess i'm getting confused with all the different motors. (Or just senile) Just read up on it and the 250XS can run as low as 87. The 400R has the computer that compensates for low octane fuel. The 300XS is the PIA motor that needs 91 minimum, with no compensation function. So you are gonna have to have a little help along the way.
