I/o props on outboards. No pvc holes

quick question i just bought a new motor for my 22 Activator. I have a 14” stainless marine setback bracket. I was going to mount my motor 3/4” below the pad. Low water pickup 1.75 ratio

I have access to a bunch of I/o props hydromotive, bravo 1 etc. I was going to borrow them for testing but was wondering how necessary is the pvc holes drilled into the bullet of the hub? What is the impact of not having these. (Don’t think my buddies want their props drilled. Lol )

How does a chopper style prop run on these boats ? I have a 24 and 28p choppers.

The holes vent exhaust around the outside of the prop, allowing the prop to spin up to an RPM in the motor's optimal power band. Run the prop without and see how it performs. Really depends on the particular boat and prop whether or not it will get a better holeshot with or without

Just try them. Smaller pitch might be fine. Worst case is they take a while to get on plane. If you like the prop everywhere else holes can be added to take off better.

I don’t think you’ll notice the lack of holes once on plane.

I tried some i/o props on my prOgression and other than taking forever to plane they were fine on plane

Also, chopper style props should run well on an activator 22.

Ok thanks for the replies. Yeah I was wondering if the non vented would be luging the engine trying to get on plane. It will be good to get it on plane then see how the props perform and then know what to shop for.

You more or less can’t just drop the hammer. A controlled quick hammer drop works better.

Bring it it up to speed and once you hang smothly add throttle to plane out. Takes a few to match.

Vents and full full throttle hammer drops are more fun though

One of my best props I use for my 26' single o/b hull is a stern drive over hub cleaver. Very low slip and can run it fairly high.
