Exclamation Mercury T3 1750XS Engine For Sale... In Norway?

I came across this ad for a Mercury T3 for sale, located in Norway. Does anybody know anything about it? I'd really be interesting in knowing more about it. Here's a link to the original ad:

Here goes another negative comment from Mr. nitpicker/collector (me): I don't see anything there to indicate it's anything more than an old style (T2X/T3) mid with a T3 cowl and an unknown powerhead and shiftable lower bolted to it. (the only available lowers were the early SSM's in either 1:1 or 14:15 (most were 14:15) All of the race engines starting with the T2's had alum. flywheels and I'm pretty sure my first T3 had a bare powerhead rather than black. The enriching solenoid is not mounted in the place that the factory placed them and I have no idea what that box in the fuel line ahead of the carbs is, but it's not factory T3 either. The extra side louvers to the rear aren't original to any T3 I've ever seen and the stickers are low on the cowl, possibly due to the extra louvers. Probably a cool ole' engine to play with, but not much originality or collector value from what I can see at a glance (and those steering arms are VERY home made)

That's why I tagged you in this post. I knew you would be able to give great detail on this. I know very little about the T3 and the shiftable lower unit had me wondering. The standard steel flywheel also made me scratch my head. I'd be interested in knowing the story on this engine. There could not have been many T3 parts exported out there. I really appreciate your analysis. Your details are great.

I'm also curious about that C3 in the background. I'm going to try to contact the seller to see what he has to say.

I was also curious about that box in front of the carbs. I thought maybe a fuel pump or filter? I just see loose wires there so who knows. Is that the trim pump hanging off its lines in that one pic?

Here's a translation of the text in his ad:

Mercury 1750 XS T3 -76 Racing Engine. A working engine, one of the six to be imported from Finland. Not suitable for normal use (direct drive) Mercury Collector's Dream.

He indicates a direct-drive lower unit, which is interesting. Maybe a shiftable lower unit that just isn't shiftable? Probably hacked together.

That box looks like a cheap in-line electric fuel pump.

This engine is for sale in Finland. I am quite sure that it is not original T3 , it is somekind of replica. Lowerunit is from 850XS and it is locked to forward. Midsection is as i believe from the only T2X which is imported to Finland. I own that T2X powerhead. It is quite sure that to Finland has not imported any complele T3, the owner who had my T2X as new ordered in 1977 complete T3 powerhead and cowlings through Finish Mercury importer , Vator company, and changed powerheads ie.T2X to T3. That T3 powerhead went totally broken in 1978 said the owner to me. So i think that now there is "fishing" engine inside those cowlings.
    Hope this helps ??

That "box" in the bottom pan is electric fuel pump, maybe Facet ? As i know there is not imported any T3 engines to Finland through Vator company ! Only 6 or 8 Merc 650XS engines for sure , one T2 and one T2X. Several 1250BPs and one or two Twister 1.

Yes, that looks correct, cool story! Maybe you could buy it back to put your T2X back together?

Yes, looks like the Facet pump that Empi used to sell to the aircooled VW kiddies over here!

I tried to buy that mid back but seller is not willing to sell separate parts of it. And that asking price is too high too ! I have found some other "goodies" to buy !!Click image for larger version.
