Mercury 200 xri Falls flat on it's face

Took boat for test drive today, first time out for me with it. Went to take off out of and motor came up to around 3500 rpm's and fell flat on it face, then all of a sudden it took off like a bat out of hell and then tach dropped out and motor fell flat on it's face again and then tach came back and motor picked back up, couple times tach never came back but motor picked up and ran. By looking at things it appears to have new regulators(CDI) and new stator...for reference sounded like motor dropped down to around 3,000 rpm's....1995 200 xri...any help appreciated..

Also failed to mention idle stabilizer and detonation box is still hooked up.

Do you have a multimeter and a DVA adapter? Download the CDI troubleshooting manual and start testing.

    http://www.cdielectronics.com/wp-con...g-Guide_RS.pdf

It will walk you through the testing procedures. If you need a DVA adapter, there are cheap ones available on eBay that I prefer to my expensive "tool truck" unit.

Start with output tests on the high side of the stator. There are lots of things to cover on these motors too, from the pulse pump to injectors etc. If the pump diaphragms still have black paint on the outsides you are going to want to rebuild that.

If you leave the tach out of the equation that sounds more like a fuel delivery problem

Diaphragm fuel pump looks like it's been rebuilt, after looking at plugs again appears i have 2 that are not firing.

Stator output to switch boxes good..but voltage coming out of switch box for left bank 4 5 6 is not so good..even pulling spark plug wire off on those plugs on that bank didn't make no difference. Haven't check yellow wires yet as it started raining and im working outside.

Let me back up here for a moment...does one switch box control 1 bank like 2 4 6..? cause that bank is mostly dead when pulling plug wires 1 3 5 make a big difference when i pull plug wires. Pulled 2 plugs out on left bank 4 & 6 and 1 plug out of right bank # 1 the 2 on the left bank look like they have never fired the right bank #1 is blackish looking.
