I bought it in the early 90s from an estate sale for $4,000. During the 25 years or so I have owned it, it has been rained on once! I knew if I ever let this one go, I probably would never be able to afford another like it, and I was right. I have it insured for over $100K.

I have had a few nice ones...The one I miss the most is the 1970 SD 455 Trans Am that i bought new. Had it for several years. That car today would be worth 80K+ You could not keep rear tires on it. It used up a rear set every 5000 miles....Factory tires were F-70-15's haha. Even going to G-60-15 did nothing but make more smoke. Next would be a 1971 LT-1 Vette. Another valuable car in today's market...

1970 400 R/A 3,4 SD or 455? I thought the lower compression 455 replaced the 400 when the 71 was made. I know the development was 1970, how did you option it?

64 1/2 Mustang v8 before I knew what it was going to be worth. 69 Boss 302 ... same. Had 32k miles on it when I sold it in 1980. I drove a truck every day (always have) and my ex wife didn't like shifting....

Misspoke on 1970. Had to think about it. It was a 73 model year. Think they only made them for a few years. Not much options wise back then, p/windows, AC, turbo 400.

Doesn't matter, I know that car and it moved. I was thinking you somehow optioned a 70 1/2 455 with hi compression, the enamel on the hens tooth. The RA 4 heads I've heard are sweet on the 455.

It was a cool car. I had a 70 fire bird esprit that I traded in on it. I would take one in for service and drive a new one out HAHA. Back then I got a new car every 2 years. Bud of mine had a drop top 69 trans am with a 400 in it. It ran good ....I also had a 76 formula 400 for a while. It was a nice car, not nearly as quick as the SD or the LT-1. Pulled a boat good though. Loved the pontiacs. My bros had 400 and 455 gran prix's and sister a 455 grand am. Back in those days a new car only cost about 5k.
