    Hydrostream Vector Time Capsule!

    1973 All-Original Vector

This all-original 1973 Hydrostream Vector is owned by Tim Dykstra's family, and has owned it since 1978. The boat appears to be entirely original, including the 150HP Mercury. We've seen hundreds - maybe thousands - of Hydrostreams here, but to find one this old and in this condition is fantastically rare. And, if anybody wants it, it's for sale.

Below is the full text of the ad as Tim has it listed. His contact information is below if anybody is interested. But whether or not you might want to buy this boat, I thought you would all enjoy looking at it.

    1973 Hydrostream Vector – Serial # HSP395VT1173 - Original Excellent Condition

~Posted on behalf of my father~

This a 1973 Hydrostream power boat in top, completely original condition. It was purchased by the current owners in 1978 in nearly new condition, and has been maintained in that condition since then. After each use on calm clear days, the boat is towel dried, trailered and garaged until its next use. It has been an excellent ski boat and an all-around pleasure to own for over 40 years. It has the original Tee-Nee trailer and canvas cover and can be easily towed behind many automobiles which are equipped with a quality trailer hitch. The tires on the trailer have recently been replaced and the wheel covers are chrome “moony” covers which complement the whole package very nicely.

As can be seen in the photos, this Hydrostream has the all-original black naugahyde interior, and the carpet is in excellent and clean condition. It is equipped with the original tachometer and we have found this to be a very useful indicator of engine running status. The interior is not allowed to get wet during use by the careful placement of towels. The seats and other interior parts are regularly rubbed with a leather treatment. The gel coat is also treated regularly with polish and preservative designed for this purpose. The rear seat bottoms are removable for storage. There is also considerable storage space behind the dash for flotation devices, towels, etc. The Mercury hand controls are located between the seats for ease of use and for preventing any defacing of the original hull.

The engine is an original Mercury model 1500 in-line 6 cylinder also referred to as a “tower of Power”. It is equipped with a 3 bladed 21 pitch stainless steel propeller and power trim, which raises and lowers the lower unit for less drag and performance after planing. It has needed very little beyond routine spark plug and lower unit oil replacement. Several years ago the main steering and distributor bearings required service, but that has been the extent of the repairs that this fine, reliably performing engine has ever required. We have only used the factory recommended Mercury Quicksilver oil and have carefully mixed it at the fuel tanks. Behind the rear panel are the twin 6 gallon original Mercury fuel tanks.

We also have a ski rope in which you may have an interest. You may contact us with any questions, a visual inspection, or a test drive as weather permits. Please contact us via Email @ dsdykstra55@gmail.com.

I can't get over how cool this boat is. Hydrostream boats, in general, are really a living legend.
